A trip to Croatia that means more than 1,000 islands in the Adriatic Sea, picturesque ports, cliffs, lynx, bear and living tradition.
The Plitvice Mountains are home to about 100 lynxes that especially in winter find a lot to eat as there are always weak animals at this time of the year. At the end of winter the waters of the melting snow pour into the Sava River and the floodplains. Thanks to many frogs and other amphibians the storks have lots of food here. And the floodplains also are very good grasslands for cattle and pigs. You even find ancient pig breeds here.
After the wars again many tourists come here to discover the beauty of the landscape.
A very special travel destination is the National Park of Plitvice. Here in the forests you can even find brown bears. Very special landmarks are the Plitvice Lakes with the many waterfalls and cascades. Due to calcification the landscape is changing constantly. And even flowstone caves with magnificent stalactites and stalagmites can be seen. No wonder the Plitvice Lakes are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The South West of Croatia is the Mediterranean Croatia with almost 1,200 islands on the Croatian coast and many picturesque ports. Dalmatia is the land of sheep. On the Karst they find more herbs than grass and the milk is mostly used to make the very tasty cheese that is typical for the region.
The Dinaric Mountains were the scenes for many movies and in the karst region, with the spectacular lumps of rock, you only find few trees and rivers. Only the Krka River with its many waterfalls is flowing down to Adriatic Sea.
